Pic4: Persephone (Meredith Cunningham) is the sweet and silly twin of Hestia (played by Alyssa Galvan) and the 3rd youngest of the Shoemaker clan.

Pic5: Martin is actually a shy softspoken boy while his character Hermes as a loud and obnoxious (at first) wanna be gangster. Meredith (right) was the first to memorize all of her lines and even memorized those of her play sister Alyssa.

Pic6: Staying still in costume is not what these kids do. But it was remarkable how none of them stained or tore any of their pieces...until later.

Pic19: The role of Larjman was specifly meant for a hairy man. Director and co-playwright Brian Warren said "a women made to be ugly just isn't funny. But man dressed as a hideous women will always get some laughs."

Picture 1 – Fiesta Texas’ Ferris wheel at the Boardwalk section of the park on May 9th 2010.

Picture 2 – The screams from the parks many roller coasters were a common sound at the park, eventually turning into a background hiss.

Picture 3 – Among those roller coasters was the Goliath. The ride has only open for a year.

Picture 4 – Its many twists and turns provided ample thrills and belch inducing feelings for all involved.

Picture 5 – Amy Terrazas cried after not winning a toy at one of the parks many games.

Picture 6 - Kayla Cirlos was not scared of showing off her face paintings. The five-year-old had never been the the amusement park before.

Picture 7 – Cousins Kayla Cirlos and Amy Terrazas were in front of almost every photo taken that day.

Picture 8 – The signs at the amusement park, though thorough, were not as helpful as most of the parks visitors would have hoped.

Picture 9 – Security Guards at the Amusement Parks entrance were busy the entire day, ensuring no weapons or illicit substances entered the park.

Picture 10 – Kayla Cirlos attempted three times throughout the day to win a stuffed animal.

Picture 11 – Kayla Cirlos many attempts at winning a stuffed animal were finally successful with the help of her uncle.

Picture 12 - The Ferris wheel provided rest and views for the mothers in the late afternoon.

Picture 13 – Amy Terrazas unusually large appetite was helped by a turkey leg she shared with her father.

Picture 14 – Kayla Cirlos and her grandfather enjoyed one of the few rides she was tall enough to enter, the Tazmanian swings.

UTPA BRONC RADIO/HOT SEXY STUFF by Kevin Stich

1. University of Texas-Pan American Bronc Radio Director Larissa Garza and Producer Adriana Trevino are in charge of the live Friday afternoon broadcast on utpa.edu/broncradiotv.

2. They make sure that the audio chain is set up correctly before each show, and during the shows monitor the "levels" (volume) of the channels to make sure they don't peak.

3. They use computers to record the audio, using programs such as Adobe Audition and Soundtrack.

4. Their classes have taught them to be able to manipulate the audio or add music to the takes, among other things.

5. They connect the wiring and make sure that the audio signal follows the right path to the broadcast.

6. They also learn how to operate the analog hardware including the mixer and the wiring. They learn about the knobs controlling treble, mids, and bass -- this is the basic idea behind "mixing."

7. They call the room where the actual recordings are done "The Champagne Room."

8. Daniel said I looked like I tasted good... I was freaked out.

9. The duo is equipped with knowledge that would enable them to start their own radio station.

10. Before there was computes, audio was recorded on tape. The two said they know nothing about tape...

11. Both of the broadcast majors admire foley artists (people that make sound effects for movies and TV).

12. They both strive to learn everything about Broadcast that they can. Adriana currently assists the Versus sports network with its TV broadcast, while Larissa hopes to improve on her show "Lary's Music Lounge."

Savory Perks Coffee Shop by Kristen Jandusay

1: The carved sign of Savory Perks was created by the contractor that did the remodeling of the original building.

2: Back patio signage reflects the casual, low-key vibe of Savory Perks, the local coffee shop in Weslaco.

3: Owner and manager, Marco Munoz keeps himself busy behind the front counter during the slow hours of the day.

4: Allyson Le Bleu and Elsie & Paul Weber chat about the stress on both students and teachers that finals week bring on.

5: Nitha Halder takes a photography class inside Savory Perks, a popular photography location due to the unique natural light.

6: Kevin Walkowiak signs a receipt as he prepares to hold a casual Bible study that's free to the public, held every Thursday night.

7: In addition to skilled artists, anyone can create their own masterpiece on the various chalkboards located within the shop. Paul Weber renders a Mickey Mouse overhead.

8: The guitar and bass musicians of Atlantis, a jazz band from San Antonio, play for a home crowd. They were only in town for the weekend and performed a small show for family, friends, and the local crowd.

9: The band Atlantis, made of two sets of twins, performs on the small stage at Savory Perks. The stage also gives way to other musicians as well as poetry readings every week.

10: Visiting jazz musicians from the band Atlantis enjoy a brew as they perform for a home crowd. Two of the four musicians are from Weslaco, though the bad is based in San Antonio, TX.

11: Original wooden flooring is juxtaposed by the walls that display new art, where a variety of art media is showcased.

12: Decorations around the back patio tap into the feeling of community and love. The addition of the back patio has doubled the sitting area of the coffee shop.

13: Christmas lights are used to set the ambiance outside the coffee shop and around the new back patio. Eventually the back patio area will be expanded and completed as a wrap-around deck. Spring yields the grand leaves of the sycamore tress green.

BSM MEMBERS FUND RAISE FOR SUMMER MISSIONS

Pic 21. The garage sale went on Sat. May 1st from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. students were able to raise over 300 dollars for their missions fund. Items were sold from 25 cents to twenty dollars. BSM members had a great turnout and are planning for more fundraising events before their due date May 28

Shoe Shining-Josue Galvan

1. This 10-year-old case contains the tools Juan uses to shine his shoes.
2. Juan's favorite pair of dress shoes—“Classics” by Stacy Adams. He has owned this pair for about 5 years.
3. Juan holds the left shoe on his lap while speaking of his fondness for Stacy Adams “Classics.”
4. Demonstrating where the additional sole is placed.
5. Holding his pair of Stacy Adams “Classics” while preparing to shine them.
6. Juan exhibits his multi-purpose shoe brush. This brush is at least 5 years old.
7. The first step in the shoe shining process is the removal of excess dirt.
8. Kiwi’s “Black” is Juan’s polish of choice.
9. He has been using this polish sponge for about 4 years.
10. Applying the polish to his right Stacy Adams “Classic.”
11. One must not neglect polishing the heel and sole of each shoe.
12. He continues polishing; this time, it is the left shoe.
13. After having polished the shoe to the left, he sets it down to dry.
14. Buffing the shoe post-polish application ensures a lustrous shine.
15. This shoe has been polished and buffed to glossy perfection.
16. This shoe, which has only been polished, appears dull and opaque.
17. Using a cloth, Juan further spreads the polish over the shoe.
18. Putting the final touches on the polished shoe.
19. After brushing, polishing, buffing, and spreading, this is the final result!

A Day in the Life of a Tutor at EE High

Brownie Heaven

1. Maria Fernanda Garza tries to decide which box will be her next victim.
2. Now she walks to her S.U.V. to drive home.
3. She opted for Betty Crocker's hershey's original supreme best brownies ever!
4. Looking for that darn oil!!
5. Found it! Maria Fernanda now reads to see what type of oil it actually is.
6. In search of the measuring cup that will help her get the exact measurments she's looking for.
7. Next she searches for the eggs so she can start mixing her ingredients together.
8. Maria Fernanda needs a pan to put the brownie mix.
9. She begins by dumping the Betty Crocker mix into a mixing bowl.
10. Pure Hershey's Syrup mmm can't get chocolatier than that.
11. Then she pours 1/3 of a cup of that extra virgin olive oil into the measuring cup.
12. Now she slowly pours it over the bowl.
13. MMM almost looks like fudge ice cream!
14. Now she adds a little bit of water to the mix.
15. Realizing she was missing about 1/4th more of water she goes to fill up her special cup.
16. She has to crack some eggs and beat the yolks.
17. Now she pours it uniformly over the brownie mix.
18. All the ingredients have been added, now she begins the mixing process
19. Here we have an ariel view of Maria Fernanda working hard at mixing the brownie batter.
20. All mixed up now we have our almost final product.
21. She slowly starts to pour the batter into the mold.
22. She begins to cover the bottom before moving on to doing more layers.
23. Almost done now she needs to set up the oven to 350 degrees.
24. After the oven is set up to 350 degrees she slides in the mold with the brownie to start baking.
25. Finished baking!!! Now she pulls out the mold.
26. Here we have a look at the final product, mmm gooey brownies.
27. Contemplating a hard days work she leaves it stand for a bit.
28. MMM brownie heaven is finally achieved!

Trip to the Texas State Aquarium

-Photo 1: Christian Garza, along with the rest of the third graders at Santiago Garcia Elementary in Edcouch, visited the Texas State Aquarium last Friday.
-Photo 2-4: Two buses were needed to drive the whole third grade class to Corpus Christi.
-Photo 5-7: The third graders kept a look-out for signs that they were getting closer to Corpus as they eagerly awaited their arrival to the aquarium.
-Photo 8-9: Both the students and chaperones requested a much-needed break at a rest area just past the checkpoint.

Farmworker Freedom March, Florida

Picture 1: This is a group photo of everyone that went on the trip except for me. I took this photo in front of Buc-ee’s convenience store. This chain is known for its immaculately clean restrooms, and it lived up to the hype!

Picture 2: I added in a picture of myself, since I didn’t get to come out on the group photo. I had on my UTPA shirt to represent where we were from.

Picture 3: This is a shot I took during the nighttime segments of our journey. Conversations peppered the night as friends spoke of politics, theology, current events and music.

Picture 4: Hector, one of the companions, is taking his turn to drive. The beanie he’s wearing was hand-knitted by Evan during the 27-hour drive from Texas to Florida.

Picture 5: This is Evan, a fellow photog. This particular picture was when we had already arrived at the march. An undercover police officer can be seen in the back ground in an unmarked vehicle.

Picture 6: Here we see Heather, looking a bit grumpy, paying at a tollbooth. I noticed that almost every tollbooth we had to stop at employed an older person.

Picture 7: This is a seemingly endless highway, one of many that we traveled on out excursion. The trees to the right stood out because there aren’t any like these along the South Texas highways.

Picture 8: These trees looked very lush and the highways were very clean, unlike Louisiana.

Picture 9: In this moment of youthful revelry, Hector decided to urinate in a water jug to break the monotony of the drive. Everyone got a kick out of it except for me, because the Enterprise van was rented with my credit card.

Picture 10: As we approached the rally, we were greeted by a helicopter, which hovered overhead. It was a bit intimidating to be surrounded by dozens of police units and the helicopter.

Picture 11: This flat-bed truck led the march and was equipped with a generator to power a PA system and d.j. who played lively music and motivated the crowd.

Picture 12: The people in the picket line march proudly in front on the Publix supermarket in Tampa. Demonstrators came ready with their homemade signs to convey their thoughts.

Picture 13: The well-known Publix “P” was utilized on shirts and signs to spell out “Poverty.” Claims had been made that Publix, who buys from growers, has encouraged extremely poor working conditions faced by farm-workers in the fields.

Picture 14: A troupe from New York played traditional Central American music with dancers who all followed the lead of the drummer, which they circled.

Picture 15: After marching with the picket line in front of Publix, the musicians set up in a small crevice, which was off Publix property, to perform for the crowd. Spectators sit and stood with their families looking on in awe, undoubtedly because they had never had an opportunity to see anything like the dancers.

Picture 16: The dancers dawned traditional clothing of the indigenous peoples and even had a form of incense burning to further set the mood.

Picture 17: And as the sun sets, marchers try to relax after a long day. The march would continue on for two more days and would end with a rally in front of Publix corporate headquarters.

Midnight Breakfast

Picture 1: Balloons hung from the many informational booths at Thursday’s Midnight Breakfast held in the Student Union. The event sought to provide not only a way for students to relax before finals week, but also gave the University a chance to gauge student needs for Union expansion.

Picture 2: The lines were long for free food at Thursday’s Midnight Breakfast. The event provided students free food, prizes, a DJ and most importantly, a chance to relax before finals.

In 2009 film manufacturing for photo cameras was completely discontinued.
Digital cameras had taken over into the next step of photography, making film obsolete.
In 2010 we can see how other technologies are replacing movie rentals as we know it. This is a soundslide about the downfall of Hollywood video.

A couple of things

 Because there are copyright laws, you need to be careful about using music in your slide shows....if it is playing in the background, it's one thing, but it is not acceptable to let your slides play to a song, like a music video. Plus, that isn't the idea behind this project.
Overall, most of what I'm seeing is pretty good. I am pleased that many of you are figuring out how to resolve problems and technical issues with tutorials and googling for information. This is how it works in the world.

I hope you will be able to use these skills in your future job and please hold on to your multimedia work for your professional portfolio.

A Day in the Life of a BeatNik

1. Beatnik Agency is conveniently located next to Roosevelt's at 7, a popular local bar and hangout.

2. Beatnik Agency is located on Main Street in the Arts District, an area known for local artists.

3. The entrance to the building which contains Beatnik is guarded by a magical cactus.

4. These stairs lead up the way to the second floor.

5. Even though the building only has two floors, there are 83 flights of stairs to go up.

6. This hallway also contains many other businesses, mostly photographers.

7. This long hallway contains the Beatnik Agency's office.

8. Many people would not be able to find the BeatNik office without these trusty sign.

9. The official BeatNik Agency banner is visible when you first come in.

10. Mae Vela takes time out of her busy work schedule to pose for the camera.

11. The entire BeatNik Agency office in all of its splendor.

12. The BeatNik mascot incites fear into the minds of the uncreative.

13. A prototype of the project Mae Vela is currently working on. These boxes will be handed out to potential clients. Inside, a balloon attached to a business card and a note.

14. BeatNik Agency plans to hand out several of these boxes to attract as many new clients as possible.

20. Orange balloons are used for the boxes. Orange is a visually striking color and attracts attention to the eye.

22. Mae Vela keeps herself hydrated while working with an assortment of drinks to choose from.

23. Mae Vela sits in front of the idea board. She has been making boxes for several hours.

24. Nourishment is very important to Mae Vela if she plans to finish her task on time.

25. When Mae Vela takes a break she has several comfortable chairs to choose from around the office.

26. Mae Vela keeps her phone by her side at all times in case the BeatNik boss has an emergency.

27. Mae Vela has developed an assembly line to complete her task in record time.

28. Even in an empty office, Mae Vela has what it takes to keep herself motivated and focused on the task at hand.

29. This warning sign is placed outside the BeatNik office door to ward off outsiders who try to disrupt the creativity that is contained inside.

Photo 1: January 2009 Amanda Guajardo competes against other teen girls in the Miss Pharr Pageant, but Saira Trevino ends up taking the crown.

Photo 2: Guajardo has purchased over 10 dresses for various beauty pageants, including this leopard print one she deems her favorite.

Photo 3: Guajardo gets her makeup done at the Origins makeup counter in Dillards early in the morning before her most recent pageant Saturday.

Photo 4: Guajardo has 11 pairs of shoes for pageants and formal events in her closet and 26 pairs of shoes in total.

Photo 5: Guajardo won 3rd place in her very first beauty pageant at the age of 2.
